HAIR
Hair is a protein filament that grows from follicles in the skin of mammals. It is composed of keratin, a tough and fibrous protein that also makes up the nails and outer layer of the skin. Hair is found all over the body, except for the soles of the feet, palms of the hands, lips, and mucous membranes. Hair has a number of important functions, including protection from the sun and other environmental factors, regulation of body temperature, and sensory perception. Hair on the head also plays an important role in social interaction, as it is often seen as a symbol of personal identity and style.
The growth and appearance of hair is influenced by a number of factors, including genetics, hormones, age, and nutrition. Hair growth goes through three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen. During the anagen phase, hair grows actively from the follicle, while during the catagen and telogen phases, the hair stops growing and eventually falls out. Hair color is determined by the amount and type of melanin, a pigment produced by specialized cells called melanocytes. As we age, the amount of melanin in the hair decreases, leading to gray or white hair. Hair can be styled and manipulated in a variety of ways using tools such as combs, brushes, and hair dryers, as well as chemical treatments such as coloring, perming, and straightening. However, excessive styling or chemical treatments can damage the hair and lead to problems such as split ends and hair loss.
