defragment

İngilizce - Türkçe

DEFRAGMENT
"To defragment" refers to the process of reorganizing data on a computer's hard drive so that files are stored in contiguous blocks. When files are stored on a hard drive, they are often broken up into smaller pieces, called *fragments, which are scattered across the disk. This is because the computer saves files wherever there is available space on the hard drive.
Over time, as files are created, modified, and deleted, the hard drive can become fragmented, with files spread out in different areas of the disk. This can slow down the computer's performance, as the system has to search the disk for all the fragments of a file before it can be accessed.
To defragment the hard drive, a special program is used that rearranges the fragments of files so that they are stored in contiguous blocks. This makes it easier and faster for the computer to access files, and can improve overall performance.
Defragmentation used to be more important in older versions of Windows, but newer versions are better at managing fragmentation. Nonetheless, it can still be beneficial to defragment your hard drive from time to time, especially if you notice your computer is running slow or if you are working with very large files.
