corticotrophin

İngilizce - Türkçe

CORTICOTROPHIN
Corticotrophin (also spelled corticotropin) is another term for adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), a hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland in the brain. It stimulates the adrenal gland to produce and release cortisol, which is involved in the regulation of the body's response to stress. It is released in response to corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), which is produced by the hypothalamus in the brain. CRH stimulates the release of corticotrophin, which then acts on the adrenal gland to produce cortisol. Cortisol helps the body cope with stress by increasing blood sugar levels, suppressing the immune system, and regulating blood pressure.

Corticotrophin is also used as a medication in the treatment of certain medical conditions, such as adrenal insufficiency, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. It can also be used as a diagnostic tool to test for disorders of the adrenal gland and pituitary gland.
