ATHEISM
Atheism is the lack of belief in any deity or supernatural power. An atheist is someone who does not believe in any gods or goddesses, or any supernatural entities. Atheists typically base their beliefs on scientific evidence, critical thinking, and rationality rather than religious texts or dogma. Atheism can be contrasted with theism, which is the belief in one or more gods or goddesses. Atheists often argue that the burden of proof lies with the theist, who must provide evidence for the existence of their deity. They contend that in the absence of such evidence, atheism is the default position.

There are many different types of atheism, ranging from strong or positive atheism, which asserts that there is no god or gods, to weak or negative atheism, which simply lacks a belief in deities. Some atheists may also be agnostic, meaning that they believe that the existence of a god or gods cannot be known or is unknowable. Atheism has a long history, with famous atheists including philosophers such as Friedrich Nietzsche, Bertrand Russell, and Jean-Paul Sartre, as well as scientists like Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, and Stephen Hawking. While atheists are often criticized for their lack of belief in a deity, they can be found in all walks of life and have contributed to a wide range of fields and causes.
