ASSIMILATION
1. The process of absorbing and integrating new information, experiences, or ideas into one's existing understanding or knowledge base. This can refer to cognitive assimilation (the way people learn and understand new concepts) or cultural assimilation (the process by which an individual or group adopts the cultural practices and values of another).
2. (biology) Te process by which organisms convert nutrients or other substances into a usable form for growth, repair, or energy production.
3. (social psychology) Te process by which people from minority groups adopt the cultural norms and values of the dominant group in order to fit in or avoid discrimination.
4. (linguistics) A phonological process in which one sound becomes more like a neighboring sound. For example, in the English word "inflammable," the "n" sound in "in" is assimilated to the "m" sound in "flammable," making it easier to pronounce.
5. (geopolitics) The process by which a smaller state or nation is absorbed into a larger one, often resulting in loss of cultural or political autonomy.
